From Emergency Services
Responded to 2091 calls in 2010, an increase of 149 calls from 2009 (8%). County call volume was up 2%. We are the 3rd busiest agency in Saratoga County. The top 4 types of calls we responded to were breathing related, cardiac related, falls, and motor vehicle crashes. We provided a total of over 37,000 man-hours of coverage to our district. Now employing 38 EMTs/Paramedics. We have just purchased new ANSI and NFPA approved safety gear for all of our responders to ensure their visibility on roadside scenes as well as providing personal protection from fluid contamination. We are now participating with Hudson Valley Community College as an intern training site for their Paramedic program. We are also working with Ballston Spa High School Cooperative Education and Internship Program to give senior students a practical introduction into the world of Emergency Services.
Ballston Spa Fire Department
Departments together responded to 343 calls for 2010. New Junior Firefighter program is going nicely. More and more young folks are showing an interest in this program. April 9-10 we held an Open House as part of our Recruitment and Retention Program. We are always looking for new volunteers. Our new officers for 2011-2012 are as follows: Chief - Kevin Theriault, 1st Asst. - Paul Marozzi, 2nd Asst. - David Whittredge, 3rd Asst.- Bill Lewis. Always remember to check with Code Enforcement before having any open burns.
Rock City Falls Fire Department
2010 Total calls answered were 423 up from 381 in 2009, an increase of nearly 11%. 2011 Calls are on same pace. Current active membership is at 55. We offer a Junior FF program for age’s 16-17 yr. olds. Department training is conducted weekly on Wednesday mornings at 9am or Thursday nights at 7pm. Fire prevention and awareness programs are provided at the station and on site for daycare and school age children, with the use of our Sparky the Fire Dog trainer and Buzz the Smoke Detector House of Hazards display. Annually the Fire Dept. organizes a Memorial Day Parade for Town of Milton residents and a 4th of July parade organized by Rowland’s Hollow residents.
