The Town of Milton Highway Department works hard to provide the best of services to the residents of the Town of Milton.
Those services include:
Spring & Summer Pick-up
In the Spring, pick up begins in April and continues until May 15th. After May 15th, yard debris will need to be put in biodegradable paper bags.
Summer road construction begins when Spring cleanup ends which prevents us from being able to pick up any yard debris on a regular basis. We urge all Town residents to put their yard debris curbside by May 15th, so yard debris is not left curbside for long periods of time.
Fall Pick-up
Fall pick up begins in October and continues until inclement weather prevents us from picking up further. We ask Town residents to please place yard debris curbside and not in the roadways. Yard debris placed in roadways is dangerous, can run into drainage systems, and is in violation of Stormwater Management regulations. We also ask that you separate leaves from all other debris to be sure we do not damage Town equipment.
We ask that you please follow these guidelines in order for us to pick up your yard debris:
- Loose leaves will be removed with a suction truck. Please do not mix other materials with leaves, as they will damage the equipment.
- Brush must be less than four feet in length, and easily handled by Highway Department personnel.
- Biodegradable paper bags must be used for items you wish to bag. No plastic bags will be picked up.
- There will be absolutely no pick up of furniture, household appliances, garbage, tires, or batteries.
- Yard debris must be placed curbside and not in the roadways.
- Items that are not in compliance with these guidelines will be passed by.
The transfer station is open Monday through Thursday from 6:00am until 4:00pm and on Saturday from 8:00am until 1:00pm. After the first snowfall, the transfer station will be closed on Saturdays throughout the Winter months.
Free Mulch and Compost for Town Residents
In the early months of Spring, the Highway Department supplies mulch and compost to Town residents free of charge. Look for it at the far end of the Town Hall parking lot. Mulch and compost are given out on a first come, first serve basis. Try to get yours early as we do usually run out by mid May.
Winter Road Service
In the Winter, it is our number one priority to be sure our roadways are safe. The Highway Department is on call 24 hours a day to be sure to clear roadways during snow or ice storms. The safety of our residents is our number one concern. We ask residents to remember the Town Code that prohibits them from parking in the roadways from November until April. This Code makes sure the roadways are clear so we can safely plow and do our jobs in an efficient manner.
Free Sand and Salt available to Town Residents
The Highway Department also makes sand and salt available to Town residents during winter months. Sand and salt will be available to Town residents on a first come basis. When the gates to the Highway Department are open, residents are welcome to come in and take sand and salt. Sand and salt may be taken in five gallon buckets only. There will be times that we, for safety reasons, will have to close the gate. During these times, we will leave piles of sand and salt outside the gates. We will try to keep these piles replenished the best that we can.
